The Government of India’s Department for Promotion of Industry, and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, introduced the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative to promote local entrepreneurship and empower rural areas by harnessing their traditional skills and industries. The program aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and foster economic growth at the district level.

The ODOP Initiative is the manifestation of the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister of India, to foster balanced regional development across all districts of the country. The idea is to select, brand, and promote one product from each district of the country for enabling holistic socioeconomic growth across all regions. The mandate of the ODOP initiative includes identifying, understanding, and solving problems associated with each of the chosen products at all points in their respective supply chains, improving the market accessibility of the chosen products, and dedicated handholding of the producers to harness the full potential of the chosen products.

Kishanganj form Bihar state has been actively pursuing the ODOP promotion initiatives. A total of 3 ODOPS, comprising both industrial and agricultural sectors, have been identified from the district of Kishanganj. Under this initiative, the ODOP products identified for Kishanganj district is TEA.

Kishanganj district, located on the banks of Himalayan region called TARAI and DUARS. The climate and soil fulfil to grow tea and this interested the investors to build tea factory. There are eleven tea factory are there. To reap the benefit of scale in terms of availing common services and so to enable the holistic socioeconomic growth across the district, the district has prepared a dedicated action plan in order to harness the full potential of the tea production.

 

ODOP Action Plan of Kishanganj District
Promote the development of different varieties of tea considering the local soil and weather conditions, in order to reduce the cultivation costs and enhance the productivity.
Conduct training of farmer’s field to demonstrate a total package of cultivation practices right from sowing to harvesting.
Organize ‘Tea Value Chain Development Workshops’ to revamp the tea value chains through alignment of support infrastructure with special focus on marginal farmers.
Identify clusters for tea production and handhold the farmers to get certification for their produce.
Tie-up with local R&D and management institutes for designing, packaging, marketing, and branding of tea from Kishanganj district.
Organize events like Buyers-Sellers Summit, Export Conclave, Krishi Mahotsav, Forex Customer Meet etc. to improve the market accessibility
Promote online marketing of rice and tea product
